What is Moodle?

Moodle is an online course management system where students can access course materials. Your instructor may also use Moodle in more interactive ways which will require your input, like discussions, quizzes, and assignment drop-boxes. You may also be asked to use more advanced tools such as wikis, databases and podcasts. Your instructor will explain how to use these.

Who uses Moodle
?

Most teachers at Lane use Moodle for their courses. Moodle is used in 3 types of courses:

  • In-class/on-campus courses: complete in-person classroom instruction; instructors use Moodle to give students access to handouts, lecture notes, and grades.
  • Hybrid courses: courses that combine in-person classroom instruction with computer-based or online learning
  • Online courses: complete courses that use the Internet to deliver lectures, assignments, and discussions; interaction with the instructor and other students is completely online.

Almost every course taught at Lane is available in Moodle, however not all instructors will incorporate Moodle into their instruction. This is the choice of the instructor.

Why can I not log into Moodle
?

Only "Active" students have access to Moodle. An active student is any student who is registered for the current term, upcoming term, or was registered during the previous 4 terms. If you are a new student, or you have been inactive, it may take a couple days after registereing again before you can log into Moodle.

I am an active student. Why can I not log into Moodle?

Follow the troubleshooting listed on this knowledgebase article: Can't Log Into Moodle

I am an active student, but I am not registered. I see many classes on my Moodle course page. Why?

It is defaulted to show you all of the courses available on Moodle at Lane. This is to show you all the available courses and lets you view courses that allow guest access. Do not worry about this, it does not mean you are registered for any of these classes. Once you are registered for courses, you will be able to see My Courses link at the right top of the Moodle home page.

I am registered for classes. Why do I not see them in my Moodle course page?

You will not be able to see your classes until the term starts, if the term has started already then contact the Student Help Desk.
