MS Word: Inserting Page Numbers & First Page Number Different than the Rest

How to Insert Page Numbers:

  • Click the Insert tab.
  • Click on Page Number in the Header and Footer section.

  • Select where you would like the page number to be inserted.

First Page Number Different than the Rest:

(Note: This will also allow you to remove the page number from the first page of the document.)

  • Double click your current header.
  • Select the Design tab. This tab will only be visible once you double click your header.
  • Under the Options or Layout bar, check Different first page.
  • This allows you to change the header on the first page only.
