Flip Video Usage Instructions


What is Flip?

The Flip Video is a camcorder for digital video created by Pure Digital Technologies, a company bought by Cisco Systems in March of 2009.
Flip became popular due to its simplicity. Easy recording, easy deleting, easy saving and sharing.

What can it do?

The ATC has Ultra Flip Camcorders (second generation) and Ultra Flip Camcorders (first generation) available for a checkout.

Using Flip

How to Record a video?

  1. Start Flip camcorder by pressing button on the right side
  2. Press Recording button
  3. To stop recording press Recording button again

How to Play a video on the camcorder?

  1. Start Flip camcorder by pressing button on the right side
  2. Select the video pressing Left or Right
  3. Press Play button
  4. To Stop the video press Play button again

How to Delete a video from the camcorder?

  1. Start Flip camcorder by pressing button on the right side
  2. Select the video pressing Left or Right
  3. Press Delete button
  4. Pressing Left or Right select whether or not delete selected or all of the videos (On older Flip camcorders press Delete again)
  5. Press Play to confirm the deletion
How to save the Video on your computer?

There are two ways to save the video on your computer:

Drag & Drop

Windows:

  1. Open My computer
  2. Double-click on FLIPVIDEO.
  3. Go to DCIM folder and open one of the other automatically created folders, such as 100VIDEO.
  4. Copy the video file
  5. Go to the desired location and paste the video

MAC:

  1. Open My computer
  2. Double-click on FLIPVIDEO.
  3. Go to DCIM folder and open one of the other automatically created folders, such as 100VIDEO.
  4. Drag & drop to desired location

Publishing to the Web

  1. Follow steps above to save the Video on your computer.
  2. Convert video to MOV format (this can be done in Quicktime Pro)
    1. There are several ways to do this. 
    2. Using Quicktime Pro and other video editing programs is probably the most common way. If you do not have this, an intern in the ATC can assist you.
    3. There are also sites on the internet that will convert it for you for free.
    4. It is possible that if your video file is simply too large for Moodle you may have to chop it in half and have part 1 and part 2. which can be done in Quicktime.
